CODE OF CONDUCT
For all staff, students, parents and guardians at The Housley School of Dance – expectations in respect of parents and pupils admitted to the dance school.
The aim of The Housley School of Dance is to ensure that all students experience dance, drama and singing in a fun, friendly, positive, safe, inclusive environment. In order to achieve this, please take note of the following guidelines.
PUNCTUALITY AND ATTENDANCE
It is vital that the students arrive in good time. Those arriving late may miss important information and impede the learning of others. Regular attendance is important. If students do not attend on a regular basis, then the development of the class and the individual student will be affected. This will impact preparation for examinations and those not attending class on a regular basis may not be able to be entered.
DISCIPLINE
Pupils are expected to behave in an orderly, civilised and wellmannered way and to show the upmost respect to teachers, their assistants and other students when attending the school. Failure to comply with the rules and regulations may result in withdrawal from the school. Bullying is not tolerated at The Housley School of Dance.
MOBILE PHONES AND SOCIAL MEDIA
The use of mobile phones in class is strictly prohibited. Students may bring them to class, but they must be kept in a safe place in bags and not used in lesson time. Footage taken within class should not be posted on social media without prior permission of The Housley School of Dance and without permission of all students involved.
SAFEGUARDING
The Housley School of Dance has a ‘duty’ of care to provide a safe environment for and to promote the health and well being of all children. The school will take all reasonable steps to ensure that the welfare of the children is embedded in our contact with them within training and activities we provide.
UNIFORM
It is extremely important that children are dressed in an appropriate manner to dance when they attend their classes. They must always have their hair tied back and should aim to wear clothes that adapt well to the chosen genre they are participating in. We do not have a set uniform list, we feel strongly that the children should be able to feel themselves and be comfortable in what they wear, however obvious steps need to be taken in order for the children to be able to work correctly and safely in class. Leotards and tights should always be worn for ballet and nearer to exam time, children will be asked to move into exam uniform so they are comfortable in what they are dancing in within the exam setting. No jeans are to be worn.
COMMUNICATION
All communication up to the age of 16 must be via parents and not children. When the children turn 16 The Housley School of Dance may be contacted via email by the child however parents should be cc’d in at all times. Please note that HousleyDance instagram is a private account, only open to children and parents who dance at the school and communication through this forum is strictly prohibited. There are scenarios where a child over 16 may wish to contact HousleyDance via instagram during audition periods for advice, or even whilst in an audition process. This will be assessed on an individual basis, ahead of the event, by both the principal and parents. Please note you are not allowed to communicate with any teachers outside of class.
Please always remember that The Housley School of Dance is a work place, and respect must be given to all staff at all times.
